About Vishnu Sahasranamam

The Sacred Thousand Names

The Vishnu Sahasranamam is a revered hymn from the Mahabharata, containing 1000 sacred names of Lord Vishnu. Recited by Bhishma to Yudhishthira on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, this stotra is considered one of the most powerful prayers in Hinduism. Each of the thousand names reveals a unique aspect of Lord Vishnu's divine nature, attributes, and cosmic functions. Regular recitation is believed to grant peace, prosperity, spiritual upliftment, and divine protection. The hymn is structured into 107 shlokas (verses) containing the thousand names, preceded by dhyana shlokas (meditation verses) and followed by phala shruti (benefits of recitation).
