About Vishnu Sahasranamam
The Vishnu Sahasranamam (विष्णुसहस्रनाम) contains 1000 names of Lord Vishnu, the Supreme Being and Preserver of the Universe in Hinduism. These names appear in 107 shlokas (verses) in the Anushasana Parva of the Mahabharata, where Bhishma Pitamaha recites them to King Yudhishthira on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
Each name describes a divine attribute of Lord Vishnu — from “Vishvam” (the Universe itself) to “Sarvapraharanayudhah” (the one who wields all weapons). The most renowned commentary on these names was written by Adi Shankaracharya. Reciting these names daily is considered one of the most powerful spiritual practices in Vaishnavism.
